Black Metal Rainbows Book Lauch
Black metal is a paradox: it is a loud, underground metal genre full of violence and ferocity. A genre that fuels the imagination with its raw, but flamboyant style and notorious history of arson, blasphemy and murder. Today, black metal is a cultural battleground between those who claim it for nationalist and racist purposes and those who say: “Nazi black metal fvck off”.
Black Metal Rainbows is a radical collocation of writers, artists, activists and visionaries, including Drew Daniel, Kim Kelly, Laina Dawes, Espi Kvlt, Hunter Hunt-Hendrix, Svein Egil Hatlevik, Eugene S. Robinson, Margaret Killjoy. With their essays, stories, art works and cartoons they loudly shout: “Long live black metal’s trve rainbow!" This unique book portrays black metal as ever open, inclusive and boundless: a music genre with a spirit of resistance that defies political conservatism.
Melanika Vainshtein is a recent graduate in Cultural Studies with a research interest in sound studies. She has written her thesis on noise music, studying the project of noise artist Pharmakon. Outside of academia, Melanika has worked as a mediator on contemporary art projects in Tyumen and Belgrade.
Acidic Male
Acidic Male is an interdisciplinary artist who intwines her personal, diary-like poetry with evocative themes like self-image, transformation, sexuality, revenge, shame and aversion. With a deep fascination for different genres of electronic music, Acidic Male wants to curate a reflective, but also confronting, space for listeners. She creates a unique duality with hard sounds and meaningful lyrics about the body.
VULVA
VULVA is a dynamic sludge/doom duo from Rotterdam, consisting of Kim Hoorweg (bass/vocals) and Nadya van Osnabrugge (drums/vocals). VULVA’s primal sounds evolve in unique forms, varying from moody, slow-burning strains to bursts of explosive garage punk. With their extensive musical background, they challenge the established order with their humour, activism, pain and violence.
Acidic Male and VULVA fuse their sounds this evening. The introspective and confessional electronic landscapes of Acidic Male mix with VULVA’s raw, expressive doom-energy to form an innovative and multi-faceted show. Expect a provocative exploration of sound and emotion, and a show that confronts and transforms.
Rattenburcht
The Netherlands’ Rattenburcht is the “black metal punk manifestation of the Forces of Chaos through screeching, stamping and screaming”.
