The country’s most intense post-punk band unveils its second album, entirely in Dutch
ConcertSo long, English! Meltheads starts a new chapter and returns to Dutch to do so. Not twelve times Naïef, yet still thoroughly Meltheads. Sietse Willems, Yunas De Proost, Tim Pensaert and Simon de Geus had already established a solid live reputation when they broke through to a broader audience in 2022 with the instant Belpop-classic Naïef.
Two years later, they burst onto the scene with their debut album Decent Sex, a fierce, relentless and unadulterated fever dream lasting around 30 minutes. National and international media – including BBC Radio 1, KEXP and Clash Magazine – fell head over heels for their sultry mix of post-punk, noise, psych and rock-’n-roll.
Prominent appearances at renowned showcase and rock festivals ensued. Shows in Belgium and The Netherlands sold out and as support-act to dEUS they toured parts of Europa. Meltheads live is an experience. Now they’re going to do it all again, but this time in Dutch.
The first step in this change of direction took place earlier this year, with a cover of En Toen Was Er Niets Meer by De Brassers for the film Dust by Anke Blondé. The door to Dutch was opened and never closed again. “Dutch inspires me again”, says frontman Sietse Willems. “At some point I started writing in it again. I sought a new way of writing and this is what happened, what can I say? But don’t expect twelve versions of Naïef.” He couldn’t have made a better choice.
So Chapter 2 won’t be a trip down memory lane. It’s both easier and braver to say what you mean in your mother tongue. And you can be sure that Meltheads has something to say. “Struggling with sadness, depression, self-loathing and anger. The moral conflict of humanity. The world is on fire. What’s the point of trying to pull yourself out of depression? Hatred toward world leaders. Infidelity. We are angry! Palestine, Israel. But also glimmers of hope. And love.”
That gives an idea of what to expect from the second Meltheads album, it’s due for release in the spring of 2027 and will be launched exclusively in our Main Hall. With an exceptional frontman and performer like Sietse Willems, it’s sure to be a wild party.
