The Netherlands’ rawest cabaret artist presents new album and show
“If you shout ‘fuck all men!’ then everyone joins in, but I don’t hate all dogs just because one bit me.”
With humour, self-deprecation and sharp lyrics, Elmer deliberately plays with expectations around gender, sound and appearance, challenging the norm. Her unapologetic performance feels like a long-awaited breath of fresh air in the Dutch-language music scene.
Elmer broke through, in 2021, when her song Je Vader went viral. After that, she was to be seen at Lowlands, Pukkelpop, ESNS and Boterhammen In Het Park. Humo wrote of Elmer’s album Platland: “A damn good debut album”. She toured Dutch pop venues in 2024 and 2025, and won an Edison Award for Best Newcomer.
“Elmer has not only lived up to our expectations (yes, it’s raw, it’s crude, it’s hard), but also exceeded them with her versatility. She channels her emotions into such an impressive piece of musical cabaret hysteria, like no other”, said 3voor12 of the club show.
In 2026, Elmer commences a new chapter with a new album, in collaboration with producer Wesley Fransen (Keenan Mundane) and with an entirely new live show. The album stems from an artistically multi-faceted and socially relevant theme: men. No pamphlet full of statements, but a personal exploration of masculinity in all its forms, contradictions and shortcomings.
In the new tracks, criticism rubs shoulders with affection and aversion collides head-on with recognition. Elmer observes, identifies, laughs and spares none in the process. Least of all, herself. In the exploration of various perspectives, Elmer looks at the man with irony and criticism, but also with compassion. Because, who is there for them?
In this phase, Elmer appears on stage as a washed-up crooner in a smoky jazz club setting. The show moves between confrontation and tenderness, and demonstrates that love and reckoning can coexist perfectly well in the same sentence. Don’t expect redemption, but rather a hand on the shoulder and room to doubt.
“Als jouw leven een jas was, hoe zag die jas eruit?
Stel ik pak ‘m uit de gangkast, wat heb ik dan voor jas vast?”
Those who saw Elmer perform at Boterhammen In Het Park in 2024 will no doubt rush to buy tickets.
