"Back/Stage, a portrait of Ancienne Belgique is the last act of Willem Mevis's trajectory as the in-house photographer of AB (2024-2026). During his time here, he lost himself in the maze of the backstage. Corridors and storage rooms. In the act of getting lost, he found his inspiration. Mevis documents the backstage as a character."
On September 17, we’ll celebrate the opening of our in-house photographer Willem Mevis’s exhibition, Back/Stage, a Portrait of Ancienne Belgique. Everyone is warmly invited to join us for this special evening, with snacks, drinks and (of course) music.
The exhibition officially opens at 6 PM n AB Connect can be visited at AB for four days During the opening night, you can also attend a free concert by Gaminconnu in the AB Salon starting at 7:30 PM. This concert was curated by Willem himself.
Willem: 'Both contextually and personally, Gaminconnu's music connects with my exhibition. Their atmospheric, experimental jazz sound has an intuitive and youthful quality, which resonates beautifully with how I experience my images.'
During the opening, you can also take a first look inside our new buildings in the Steenstraat. Willem's exhibition can also be partially viewed during our concert evenings.
See you there!
*The number of places is limited, so make sure you get there early!
