FOLKIN’ BE THERE
This event takes place as a part of Belgian Music Week, alongside Belgian World Music Night on February 2 and the concerts by bodies, Colt, Ronker, OHNA and Johannes Is Zijn Naam.
Tuesday 3 February heralds the sixth edition of the Flanders Folk Awards. On this night, we honour the Belgian folk scene in all its diversity, creativity and innovation. Expect a dazzling mix of live concerts and award ceremonies, presented by Sien Wynants and Michaël Robberechts.
Three very different bands will grace the stage with a powerful live set, demonstrating how wide-ranging and vibrant folk sounds these days. In addition, the nominees and winners will be announced in the categories Best Live Band, Horizon, Best Album and lastly the Lifetime Achievement Award.
The live bands who will playing are Enara Navaira, Thalas en Kadril and the nominees are :
- Best Live Band: Bamako Express, Global Music Ensemble en Hartwin & The Unfolders
- Horizon : Enara Navaira, Laura Cortese’s Acoustic Evenings and Trad Record
- Best Album : BASta! - III, Ghent Folk Violin Project - OGOPOGO and Thalas - As it comes
the winners of these categories and the Lifetime Achievement Award will be revealed during the evening.
The Flanders Folk Awards are much more than just an award ceremony: this night is the annual meet-up for everyone who loves the folk scene. Artists, enthusiasts and professionals come together to celebrate, listen and be inspired by the richness of this musical culture.
Flanders Folk Awards is organised by the Flanders Folk Network, a collaboration between Merodefestival, Muziekclub ’t Ey, Festival Dranouter, Muziekcentrum Dranouter, Muziekmozaïek Folk & Jazz, Cluster and VI.BE, with the support of Sabam, PlayRight, Lotto and AB.
