AB heeds ASHTAR Theatre’s urgent appeal to theatres all over the world: to publicly read or perform the Gaza Monologues on 29 November 2023, the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian people. 

The Gaza Monologues

The 2010 script consists of 31 monologues by children and youth who recount what happened to them during the war in Gaza in 2008 and 2009. Tragically, these monologues are still relevant today. They highlight the horrors, hope, and resilience of the Palestinian people and raise the voices of the children in Gaza.

Theatre-maker, musician and author Jaouad Alloul performs the monologue of Muhammad Qasem (°1995) together with guitarist Skander Jenhani.

“The day before, I was talking to my guitarist about how our grandparents and our parents seem to disappear. An entire generation. This story is about that. The simple and painful beginning about how the grandmother has to leave the room when she starts talking about the past, to the end when the youngest child finds the window frame on top of them after an explosion.” (quote from Jaouad)
