Launch of debut album at the intersection of traditional Indonesian sounds and danceable psychedelic rock
The Swiss label Bongo Joe has long had pride of place in our musical hearts; AB has been graced by many of its artists, including Altın Gün, Baby Berserk, Chouk Bwa, Meridian Brothers, Meril Wubslin, Pixvae and Societé Etrangé.
This spring, we celebrated their tenth birthday with a two-day bash featuring splendid artists, including (Gaye Su Akyol offshoot) Lalalar, Cyril Cyril and The Mauskovic Dance Band. Previously at Feeërieën were Nyati Mayi & Astral Synth Transmitters and Derya Yıldırım & Grup Şimşek.
We’re now adding the Amsterdam-based Nusantara Beat (NL) to that list. Even with only three singles to their name, they were embraced by prestigious festivals such as Lowlands, Dekmantel, Le Guess Who?, Into The Great Wide Open and our very own summer festival Feeërieën.
3voor12: “Nusantara Beat explore their Indonesian roots by putting their own spin on traditional Balinese songs from the 20th century. They turn traditional Indonesian sounds into a supremely danceable psychedelic rock.”
