After a debut EP that Holland’s leading music magazine OOR labelled ‘a collection of beautifully crafted pop songs’ in 2018, a first place in Studio Brussel’s talent show De Nieuwe Lichting early 2019, and a busy schedule for that year’s summer festivals, Mooneye is ready for the Big Job.
Michiel Libberecht and his band spent the past year in the studio with top producers Pieterjan Maertens (Tamino) and Jo Francken (Het Zesde Metaal) working on a follow-up to their debut EP. A follow-up that takes the undeniably mesmerizing guitar sound of Mooneye further, yet at the same time lets the singer-songwriter in Libberecht take centre stage even more. In short: the album everyone who’s already seen Libberecht and his band perform live has been waiting for.
Comparisons with Fleet Foxes and Neil Young will probably live on for some time. Apart from the fact that there are worse things in life, there’s no denying that Mooneye is still second to none in blending folk, rock and indie pop. As demonstrated on ‘Bright Lights’, the first and noticeably cheerful single from the new record. But the band hasn’t cast aside its equally characteristic dark undertones. Just listen to ‘Fix the Heater’, the second and noticeably angry single from the same record. A case of sudden schizophrenia? Nope, just a case of Mooneye.
Their debut album will be released this fall via MayWay Records and will presented during the tour.
