Activist recycling punk band from Kinshasa presents new album
ConcertKin'Gongolo Kiniata’s journey began in the bustling streets of Kinshasa. Driven by an uncompromising creative vision, the group started out playing at neighbourhood parties and local dances, quickly drawing attention with their innovative approach to Congolese musicSchooled in the effervescence of Kinshasa’s streets, Kin’Gongolo Kiniata is redefining the boundaries of Congolese music while honouring its deep cultural roots.
The name "Kin'Gongolo Kiniata," which means "the crushing sound," is a perfect metaphor for the group's powerful music, created with instruments handmade from recycled materials like plastic bottles and metal. This spirit of resourcefulness reflects their ability to turn urban chaos into a unique symphony—a striking mix of Afropop, Congolese punk, and experimental electronization.
Their debut album Kiniata was loved and praised for its original sound and for the activism expressed in its lyrics and the messages they convey. Through songs that address themes such as homelessness, war and survival, Kin'Gongolo Kiniata expresses a deep need for recognition and social justice while celebrating the radical resilience of the Kinois. Their new album is expected by spring 2027 and this november a 4-track ep with bands from Columbia will appear.
