We're into Folk!
During Belgian Music Week, we provide world- and folk-music lovers with a true two-day treat. On January 27, we honour the diversity and creativity of the folk scene during the fifth edition of the Flanders Folk Awards. Fans of current, local ‘worldwide’ acts can visit the Belgian World Music Awards (BWMA) a day later for equally exciting performances and prize presentations.
Every year, Flanders Folk Awards provides a platform for both established names and emerging talent within the trad and folk scene, with live shows and an award ceremony. The evening will be hosted by Sien Wynants and Michaël Robberechts.
Expect concerts by Snaarmaarwaar, BLIET and Bamako Express, as well as the honouring of musicians and projects that have made a difference over the past year. The nominees in three categories are:
- Best Live Band: Sara Salvérius & SunSunSun, Wör & Kongero and Spilar
- Horizon: Sara Salvérius & SunSunSun, Wör & Kongero, Spilar
- Best Album: Vertigo (Jaune Toujours), Live - 20th anniversary concert (Naragonia & Guests), Vandaag En Alle Dagen (Spilar)
The Flanders Folk Awards is not just any award ceremony, but a fantastic meeting place for everyone enamoured by the folk scene. Whether you’re a fervent music lover, artist or music professional: this is the opportunity to come together and celebrate folk culture. We're into folk!
Organiser of this event is the Flanders Folk Network, a collaboration between Merodefestival, Muziekclub 't Ey, Festival Dranouter, Muziekcentrum Dranouter, Muziekmozaïek Folk & Jazz and VI.BE with the support of Sabam, PlayRight, Lotto and AB.
