Sergeant
 
Sergeant makes music as if it were editing a quirky film. The trio cuts, pastes, reorganises and starts from scratch until everything falls into place. Filmmaker and composer Benjamin Cools, singing actor Ferre Marnef and sound-surfer Geraldine Vanspauwen manoeuvre effortlessly between the fringes of postpunk, the driving motoric rhythms of krautrock and an unpredictable sensibility for pop that defies classification.
 
Live, that sound is even more intense: songs stretch out, derail, take on new forms, and invariably end up in places that you didn’t see coming. That’s exactly how we want to discover their new album Symbols, released in May via Stroom.
 
Another Dancer 
 
Two years after their debut, Brussels-based art-rock quintet Another Dancer returns with The Plot. Their second album is a free-spirited, colourful pop album that goes straight for your third eye. A strategy for those seeking a new way to escape melancholy. The ingredients are familiar, but the universe has grown and the focus is sharper.

The Plot (released in September on Leuven’s Aguirre label) draws on four decades of unconventional pop music. And it has the night feeling more transparent.
