Residence collaboration between music centre Volta and AB
Aili, Echt!, Lander Gyselinck, Vieze Meisje, … the list of Volta residents who have since found their way onto stages at AB is no longer to be counted on one hand. Now the two houses join forces to launch a new residence collaboration: ABVolta!
In this collaboration, a number of Volta residents receive additional personalised support from the team at AB.
We don’t only want to give them a stage, but especially listen to what is important for them behind the scenes. We want to give artists the space to determine their own trajectory.
“As AB, our mission is to support and recognise young talent. We think it’s super important to build relationships with (beginning) Belgian artists. So it’s also a great added-value to be able to offer support to artists from the very start of their careers. We don’t only want to do that by giving them a stage, but especially by listening to what is important for them behind the scenes. We want to give artists the space to determine their own trajectory. Volta’s expertise plays a crucial role in that. We believe that, thanks to this collaboration, we can support artists in the most sustainable way possible.” - Astrid De Sterck, AB
Bombataz, Stace and Uwase are the first artists to undertake this process. The residence concludes with a compelling show in our AB Club!
Do you know Volta?
In only a few years, Volta has emerged as an indispensable organisation in the network that develops young musical talent in Brussels. The music centre provides a place where musicians can be guided and supported during their artistic journey, in a qualitative and sustainable way.
We see it as our mission to support and strengthen the vulnerable position of emerging musicians and to provide them with a context in which they can work on their artistic projects in a sustainable way.
“We see the role that Volta plays, the bridges that we build, the ‘grassroots’ dynamic of its operations, as something crucial within the current music landscape – one in which the opportunities to make music professionally are under social and economic pressure. We see it as our mission to support and strengthen the vulnerable position of emerging musicians and to provide them with a context in which they can work on their artistic projects in a sustainable way. This valuable collaboration with Ancienne Belgique makes it possible to have the talent that we wish to support together resonate beyond the local level.” - Arne Huysmans, Volta
Why the collaboration with AB? Because we are able to help the Volta residents with elements that are more difficult to cover within Volta’s regular operations. Think: production assistance for preparing a fully-fledged Club show, help with filming a video clip or livestream, support in the release of a debut album,… So we are happy to help and always do so based on the needs of the artist!
