A few weeks ago, a friend mentioned a new artist she had found.
Very curious, I looked them up. The moment I opened the profile, I felt a shiver down my spine. “I think that’s an AI artist.” I texted her.
The song itself wasn’t even bad. But it lacked the messy, human part that makes music exciting.
Hi, I’m Olly. I’m the content creator here at AB Lab.
I have a deep appreciation for Brussels, I think that the local creatives are an essential pillar to the subcultures around us. I love people that dare in their art and that aren’t scared to make something new and different.
I will be the one bringing you behind the scenes of AB Lab. Here, music lovers are invited to play around, be creative and try out new things.
In my first week here, the sentence I heard the most was: “I don’t know, let’s try and see if it works.” That mindset is exactly what AB Lab is about: an experimental playground where people make mistakes and learn through residencies, masterclasses, workshops and showcases.
It’s undeniable that there has been fast progress in technologies used by creatives, but I have the feeling that this only created a stronger pressure on the quantity and quality of outputs. Now that we have access to all resources and tools possible, how dare we even think about making something unpolished, unfinished, not perfect in all aspects?
But the things that stick with us rarely come from perfection. Whether you’re making music, exploring new sounds, or love discovering what artists are working on, there’s space for you here.
And for the record: I ended up sending my friend the uglyyyy rap song by Gala Dragot, and listened to that in repeat the whole day.
Curious? Come discover our playground!
