AB and Bolt are looking for an artist or collective to create a monumental mural on the outer wall of the Main Hall, visible from AB Rooftop.
At AB, everything revolves around energy: the energy of the artist on stage, the atmosphere in the room, and the shared moments between artist and audience. But behind the scenes, AB also runs on the sustainable energy of Brussels-based platform Bolt. Thanks to a successful crowdfunding campaign in 2023, we were able to install solar panels on AB’s roof, leading to an annual reduction in CO₂ emissions and an energy surplus that is shared with households in the neighbourhood via the Bolt platform.
The assignment
Your canvas is 7.1 meters wide and 5.85 meters high in the center and 4.57 meters high at the sides. The mural sits right next to the Bolt solar panels and goes into dialogue with its surroundings. Music, sustainability, and Brussels are the three main themes. We’re looking for an artist with a strong, recognizable visual language and enough technical experience to take on a large-scale outdoor wall.
AB and Bolt’s shared values should be tangible in the final work: energy and music as a connecting force, and the layered character of Brussels as a city in green transition. We prefer proposals that approach brand integration in a creative way. Bolt should be recognizable through color use and the integration of its logo. Within these guardrails, the artistic content of the work is fully free.
Selection
The selection runs in two rounds. In round 1, we don’t ask for a fully developed mural sketch, but for a clear concept idea: you submit a portfolio, a short motivation, and a visual indication of your direction (moodboard, reference images, or a rough composition sketch). Also include an estimate of the financial implications of your idea. Based on this, the jury selects a shortlist of finalists. Those finalists then receive a paid sketch assignment and a technical file. The chosen laureate refines the design in close collaboration with AB and Bolt and executes the painting works during the summer period.
