Earlier this year, Jan Swerts released his second album: ‘De Anatomie Van De Melancholie’, via a major even. Something that only emphasises the general faith in this artist. This album – again with splendid artwork – deals once more in awe inspiring beauty.
AB has been supporting Jan Swerts behind the scenes for more than a year already, in his quest from in ‘recording-artist’ to ‘live-artist’.
De Morgen wrote of Swerts: “The man from Limburg has developed a sound in which the nostalgia of pianists like Keith Jarrett, Wim Mertens and Philip Glass is fused with the Spartan sound of singer-songwriters like Mark Hollis and Nick Drake.”
To coincide with Jan Swerts' 2 release concerts on 9 March in the AB Club, as of early March there will be an exhibition of the artwork from this album in the AB resto.
The artwork was made by painter / illustrator Stijn Felix.
Stijn Felix lives in Ghent and has been working as illustrator for about 13 years. Stijn enjoys surprising the viewer and also himself, in a flexible style that goes from realistic to caricaturish, from fast sketches to more complex, layered images, depending on the content. A tendency toward melancholy or drama recurs in a number of pieces.
