The Hard Quartet feat. Stephen Malkmus, Matt Sweeney, Emmett Kelly & Jim White is coming to Brussels. The indie rock band will play in a sold-out AB Club on Saturday, June 21st. Still some tickets on sale.
Get to know The Hard Quartet through 5 interesting facts:
- The Hard Quartet is also known as a “supergroup”. The band consists of big stars from the rock scene. Each has played in several bands. You know Stephen Malkmus from The Pavement, Matt Sweeney from Chavez, Jim White from Dirty Three and Emmett Kelly from The Cairo Gang.
- Matt Sweeney brought the band together just before the covid pandemic in New York. In four days they almost created a full album that they officially recorded in May 2023.
- Australian drummer, Jim White, is the group's cook. On tour the artists often go out to eat, the artist decided that he did not want to eat in a restaurant for the rest of his life and bought a hot plate and a small fridge and started his own series “Cooking with Jim White”. Sometimes he shares snippets of his cooking on YouTube or Instagram.
- The Hard Quartet often works without a permanent frontman. The band members (Malkmus, Sweeney and Kelly) alternate who takes the lead within a song or composition. This ensures that no two performances or albums feel the same.
- The band's rider (the wish list for backstage during gigs) sometimes includes really weird requests. For example, they once asked for a whole roasted chicken and Stephen Malkmus routinely requests one shot of tequila or whiskey before each performance to calm his nerves.
The supergroup is bringing their critically acclaimed debut album to AB on June 21st! Get on the waiting list soon if you want to score a ticket.
