Robin Verheyen Trio w/ Drew Gress & Billy Hart present 'Liftoff'
Saxophonist Robin Verheyen (¼ TaxiWars) joins forces with Drew Gress (John Zorn) and Billy Hart (Miles Davis)
Belgian saxophonist Robin Verheyen is no stranger to the AB. The architect of Tom Barman's TaxiWars, he has presented all his (classy) albums there, from Taxiwars to Artificial Horizon and Fever. He has also appeared at the AB with his New York quartet in 2010 and 2016.
The Robin Verheyen Trio features two heavyweights of the New York jazz scene: Drew Gress and the legendary Billy Hart. Bassist Drew Gress is best known for his work with John Zorn and Fred Hersch. Billy Hart, on the other hand, is a true legend. As a drummer, he can be heard on such classics as Miles Davis's On The Corner (1972) and Pharoah Sanders's Karma (1969).
His new trio album, Liftoff, was recorded with saxophonist Wayne Shorter in mind. The precursor Soul Searching - according to Verheyen "a song about searching for love and finding your soul mate" - is already a pure splendour. The release of Liftoff coincides with Verheyen's return to Europe from New York, where he has lived and worked since 2007.
Welcome back, Robin!
