A phenomenal collage of neo-soul, rap and jazz
American rapper Pink Siifu has been drawing considerable attention over recent years with his colourful lo-fi hip-hop. British music mag Loud & Quiet says of it: âPink Siifuâs musical exploits over the past few years have been phenomenal. The Alabama-born rapper has plundered his way through gristly post-industrial sound collages and hazy indica rap, striking gold every time.â
For his latest project B. Cool-Aid he joined forces with producer Ahwlee (pronounced: Ali). The name is a nod to Brown Kool-Aid, a drink that is made by mixing various flavours of drink powder. Pink Siifu: âI was like âOh shit, thatâs us.â We also mix everything together, and itâs Black too.â The result of their collaboration is an intriguing collage of neo-soul, rap and jazz. Their latest â already 3rd - album âLeather Blvdâ was rewarded by Loud & Quiet with a fine 8/10.
Finally, a quote by Pink Siifu that we enjoyed reading: âI want my music to change people, like hearing Funkadelicâs âMaggot Brainâ on acid changed me.â
