Le premier album intrigant et captivant - The New Eve Is Rising - du quatuor féminin originaire de Brighton, The New Eves (Royaume-Uni), a été salué par The Guardian avec une critique extrêmement enthousiaste notée ****. Leur univers musical: “Imagine if the Velvet Underground scored Midsommar. … Something of the Raincoats’ rickety post-punk explorations seem to haunt its sound. … So does the lo-fi avant-garage rock of the early-80s Fall. … When the vocals tend to spoken word declamation you might think not only of Patti Smith but those moments in Crass’s oeuvre when the microphone was ceded to Eve Libertine and Joy De Vivre.”

KIM GORDON
Au début des années 80, Kim Gordon (USA) a cofondé le génial groupe précurseur de noise rock Sonic Youth, qui a cessé brutalement ses activités il y a exactement 15 ans. Depuis lors, elle a exercé une influence considérable sur le plan musical, artistique, littéraire et cinématographique.
 
Après une carrière de près de 40 ans, elle a fait des "débuts" inattendus en solo en 2019 avec le phénoménal No Home Record. Son deuxième album solo, The Collective, a également marqué les esprits. Cela lui a valu des concerts à l’AB en 2022 (un écart important dû au Covid entre la sortie de No Home Record et 2022) et en 2024 (un concert coorganisé par l’AB dans le cadre prestigieux de Bozar).
 
Voici maintenant PLAY ME, le troisième album de Gordon, à nouveau produit par Justin
Raisen, déjà aux commandes pour Charli XCX, Sky Ferreira et Yves Tumor. Gordon explique avoir opté pour des “melodic beats and the motorik drive of krautrock”. Elle ajoute : “We wanted the songs to be short. We wanted to do it really fast. It’s more focused, and maybe more confident. I always kind of work off of rhythms, and I knew I wanted it to be even more beat-oriented than the last one.”
 
Le morceau le plus marquant est BYEBYE25!, un remake de BYE BYE, l’ancien titre d’ouverture de The Collective. Un flot de mots issus de “Trump’s banned words list, terms the administration has flagged to cancel grant and research proposals”. Respirez profondément :
