Talented duo launches new album
Almost three years ago, harmonica player Steven De bruyn (El Fish, The Rhythm Kings) and double bass player Jasper Hautekiet put a particularly strange period behind them with the album Aanhou Geraas Maak. While the whole world seemed to have stopped turning for a while, they wanted to convey the message that we should never give up.
After a tour that took them all over the country and also to The Netherlands, Germany and even Cuba, they were once again inspired to dive into the studio. Aside from their trusted blues harp and double bass, this time they expanded their sound palette with a battery of electronica, analogue synths, drum machines and sequencers. At a time when everything seems to be increasingly black and white, De bruyn and Hautekiet prefer to focus on the ambiguous fringes for their new album Fuzzy Boundaries.
First single Tot Ziens is also the album’s closing track. It is a desolate track that reflects on saying goodbye to a good friend, and that sounds both emotional and hopeful and reassuring. Steven and Jasper by no means say ‘farewell’ here, but rather ‘we’ll see each other again soon’. Video artist Husk chose to combine this track with wonderful open archival footage.
This fine duo comes to present their new album – due out on 24 January 2025 - live to wrap up Belgian Music Week at our AB Club.
