Cinematic indie pop
Jan Verstraeten comes from Ghent’s punk and hardcore scene, where he embraced the DIY mentality in basement recordings, homemade merchandise and screen-printed leather jackets. Initially focusing on contemporary art and installations which combined traditional techniques with ready-mades, he eventually returned to music because he craved raw, universal connection.
His debut EP Cheap Dreams (2019) came about as the soundtrack for an unfinished film project. It introduced his distinctive mix of music and visual storytelling. It was followed in 2022 by the daring album Violent Disco, inspired by ‘70s cinema, love and strange beings.
Recently Verstraeten released Wolfman, the first single from his new EP. It is a hypnotising track that combines captivating lyrics and surreal worlds. He comes to present it and the rest of his EP at AB Club. Expect a universe in which the real, the strange, and even the absurd are closely intertwined.
