POSTPONED: ABnormal - Aksak Maboul

Facebook event Share Tweet

As a result of the extra measures announced yesterday by the Brussels Government, AB will close its doors until November 19th 2020.

We are very concerned about the situation and do not want to challenge the new measures. We understand that the alarming corona numbers come with drastic measures. It is obvious that our activities must also give way to public health at a certain point in time.

All concerts until November 19th will be suspended and rescheduled where possible. We have mobilized the entire team and are working hard to find the best solution for each event. Individual concerts may be postponed or canceled. If a concert is postponed, any tickets purchased will be valid for the rescheduled date. If a concert is canceled, all tickets will be automatically refunded

We are closely monitoring the situation and communicating any updates ASAP through our website. All buyers will be informed about changes to their event through email.

We would ask everyone to refrain from calling or e-mailing us for further updates. Please check our website for the latest information on your concert.

Finally, we would like to thank you for your understanding and patience, and wish everyone love in the time of Corona.

This is an 'ABnormal' concert. During these concerts, wearing a mask is mandatory and only bubbles of 1 and 2 people can be seated. What if you want to come with 3 people? You buy I duo bubble and 1 solo bubble. One of your friends will be sitting alone on the balcony. Same goes for all odd numbers.

Co-organized with Les Ateliers Claus

During the C19 lockdown the legendary experimental pop outfit Aksak Maboul released their first real new release in decades. Entitled ‘Figures’, it’s a double album containing 22 tracks & interludes: it took no less than that to accommodate the flow of ideas which arose after such a long gap…

Drawing again from the multiple sources which have always inspired the band (from electronic music and pop to experimentation, jazz, minimalism, contemporary classical etc), Aksak Maboul reconfigure them with their inimitable style. Weaving electronic and acoustic instrumentation, improvisation and programming, songs, beats, found objects and sound collages, the album works as a labyrinth, full of secret passages and interconnections.

The album was wholly written, conceived and produced by Marc Hollander & Véronique Vincent  (respectively founder of Aksak Maboul & Crammed Discs, and former vocalist with The Honeymoon Killers), Marc being in charge of the music, while Véronique wrote the lyrics and made the drawings and paintings for the artwork.

Also appearing on the album are contributions by the band’s current live line-up: Faustine Hollander, Lucien Fraipont (Robbing Millions) & Erik Heestermans, and by guests including a.o. Fred Frith, Steven Brown (Tuxedomoon), three members of Aquaserge and more.

The album is due for release on 15 May 2020. The band will be playing a string of shows in Europe and Japan (tba soon), and will be premiering their new live set in the intimate setting of Les Ateliers Claus on April 17 and 18.

Live line-up:
Véronique Vincent: vocals
Marc Hollander: keyboards
Lucien Fraipont: guitar
Faustine Hollander: bass, keys, vocals
Erik Heestermans: drums
