Belgian Americana with a big B and a big A
Americana, as a genre, has been making its way into Belgium’s musical landscape for quite a while now. The musicians of Calicos have had a firm foothold in it since their victory at Humo’s Rock Rally in 2018. On their debut album The Soft Landing, their mix of indie, americana and folk-rock flowed together into a compelling whole.
Three years later, Calicos now comes out with a new record AND a new sound. They kept their subtly interwoven and refined guitar work, but now also explore the more alternative aspects of the genre, think: Kurt Vile or Sharon Van Etten’s sort of indie. Live, they have already frequently proven their quality and now they are very much back at it.
