We’re putting our AB culinary heads together to try to serve you ‘the best vegetarian pasta sauce in history’, flavoured with fresh herbs and vegetables, in support of Brussel Helpt. For just €12, you can order 1 portion for collection on Saturday 22 November between 11:30 and 14:00 at the entrance to AB.
This year, Brussel Helpt is supporting Groot Eiland, an organisation that offers vulnerable Brusselois the chance to flourish via training, work experience and employment counselling.
If you have an easy time finding a job, you might not realise how many obstacles there are facing people without qualifications, networks or good health. Groot Eiland is there for those people. The organisation supports vulnerable Brusselois in their search for a job by providing them with training and work experience. They also provide employment care to people who don’t fit into the regular labour market.
Every year, about 350 people take part – with success - because in 2024, 60% had found a (new) job or entered education or training.
The organisation provides training in four sectors: hospitality, carpentry, urban agriculture and retail. In the latter, participants can build experience in Groot Eiland’s organic shop, Belfood. The urban agriculture project started in 2015 and since then has expanded to include more plots, pick-your-own farms and even a re-greening service for the city.
With Brussel Helpt’s support, the non-profit can expand its activities to enable more people to receive training and build a solid foundation with which to enter the labour market. The dream is to build a better Brussels where everyone has the chance to contribute to a productive and inclusive city.
