Release third solo album "Beard"
After a four-year hiatus, Syd is making a long-awaited comeback with “Callin’,” a single that is as gentle as it is enchanting. This track kicks off her exclusive European tour and the release of ‘Beard,’ her third solo album, which drops on July 17.
The Los Angeles-based artist is a multifaceted talent: she is a singer, songwriter, artistic director, and arranger, as well as a director, editor, and entrepreneur. At just 15 years old, she taught herself how to record, compose, and produce music. Her home studio quickly became the base of operations for the famous hip-hop collective Odd Future, which included Tyler, The Creator and Earl Sweatshirt. At eighteen, she started DJing and went on a world tour with the collective. After that, she struck out on her own. She co-founded the band The Internet, released six albums on a major label (two of which were solo), and earned a Grammy nomination.
‘Beard,’ expected this summer, marks her major musical comeback. This third solo album is her first in four years and follows ‘Broken Hearts Club’ (2022) and her debut album ‘Fin’ (2017). The album was co-produced by Syd herself and features contributions from artists such as Raphael Saadiq, Big Sean, and Rodney Jerkins. The album is conceived as an intimate and spiritual journey of growth. The title refers to the light fuzz above her upper lip: a symbol of self-confidence and total self-acceptance. Whether she’s writing and producing for Beyoncé, collaborating with magazines like i-D or GQ, getting involved in charitable causes in Los Angeles, or restoring vintage trucks, Syd never stops pushing boundaries and redefining what it means to be a “multi-hyphenate” artist.
