UK's psychedelic post-punk drone folk sensation
The debut album, Dragging the Needlework for the Kids at Uphole, earned the London quintet Index For Working Musik a cult status and was praised by critics for its post-industrial and gothic post-Velvet Underground psychedelia. Their latest album, When Direction Goes The Beam (Tough Love), builds on this foundation with powerful songs and a fresh sound driven by dark guitar drones, hypnotic cello tones, and interwoven vocal lines.
This autumn, the band will travel to mainland Europe for the first time, making their Belgian debut on the stage of Volta.
"Their sound brings to mind John Cale’s drone effects on the early VU albums and the pink noise of the Jesus and Mary Chain" – Louder than War
