Afrobeat, R&B & Soul. Atypical Nigerian creative talent presents a debut album full of soulful R&B and Afrobeat.
Godwin is a 24-year-old Nigerian singer, storyteller, and creative force whose music is deeply rooted in his personal experiences and cultural heritage.
Hailing from Kaduna, Northern Nigeria, Godwin Josiah stands out as a rare voice emerging from beyond Lagos’ bustling music scene. Before stepping fully into music, he first gained recognition as a filmmaker within the Variety-endorsed collective The Critics Company that he created with his cousins. Their work has been showcased at the influential MMK Musem for Modern Art in Frankfurt, earned a Webby Awards nomination, led to a collaboration with Morgan Freeman’s production company Revelation Entertainement, and received mentorship from industry legends like JJ Abrams and Taika Waititi.
His first EP 'Road to Nirvana', a raw and moving response to the loss of his mothern marked his transition into music, guided by the same storytelling instinct that shaped his filmmaking. He also built a devoted following on TikTok (500k+ followers) through a series of reinterpretations of African classics that revealed his vocal talent and cultural depth.
Now widely recognized as one of Nigeria’s most promising new voices, Godwin recently opened five shows on Tems’ Born in the Wild European Tour — a testament to his growing impact on the global stage. His debut album ‘Atonement’ - a sweeping 15-track narrative about love, loss, and self-forgiveness - was released in October 2025.
“I approach music like films” Godwin explains. “I’m always trying to say something. This album was written as a story—structured around two characters: myself and an imaginary girl I call Abeke.” Abeke—meaning “pampered one” in Yoruba—acts as muse, mirror, and antagonist throughout Atonement, reflecting every stage of love’s turbulent journey.
"It's structured as a cycle" Godwin reveals. “It starts with forgiveness and ends with forgiveness, but this time with a question mark.”
Godwin’s debut album is a deeply human story of affection, conflict, and healing, delivered with stunning vulnerability and artistic precision. Are you ready to get lost in his story as we did?
