3rd AB visit by this succulent industrial noise-artist from New York
A Liveurope concert:
The first pan-European initiative supporting concert venues in their efforts to promote emerging European music.
Pharmakon is the alter-ego of New York noise-artist Margaret Chardiet who first dropped by AB in 2014 (at the invitation of Swans supreme-god Michael Gira). In the meantime she has alphabetically put out her fourth album full of brutal noise. So 'Devour' follows on from ‘Abandon’, ‘Bestial Burden’ and ‘Contact’. The night will be a real female noise triple bill. The entire programme will be announced at a later date.
Puce Mary is the moniker of Copenhagen-resident sound-artist Frederikke Hoffmeier. She moves around on the common ground between industrial noise and experimental music. She recently swapped her previous homebase (the excellent Posh Isolation) for PAN. Indiestyle described her latest gem ‘The Drought’ as ‘het geluid van existentiële onrust.’
Eliza McCarthy plays Mica Levi
London pianist who regularly works with avant-pop artist Mica Levi. Check out: the soundtrack that they made together for the successful film ‘Jackie’ (with Natalie Portman) and also ‘Slow Dark Green Murky Waterfall’, an album played by McCarthy with work written by Mica Levi.
Kurt Overbergh: ’Extreme uppercut this Pharmakon. But what a wonderful one! Inexplicable why I’m so addicted to it and yet don’t choke in my coffee.’
For fans of Swans, Merzbow, Einstürzende Neubauten, Puce Mary, Sunn o))), Lana Del Rabies,…
In the press ‘Pharmakon wekt duistere koortsdromen op.’ (Indiestyle)
‘It’s frightening, at many points torturous. … The record mirrors what oppression really looks, sounds and feels like. (The Wire)
