KRAAK presents: two living legends who are reinventing the guitar
ConcertKRAAK and AB reunite in the refurbished AB Salon to welcome a double bill of living legends! Hailing from either end of the sonic ocean, Erica Dawn Lyle and Greg Malcolm converge on the Brussels stage for two sets of serious guitar magic, tuning and turning the instrument to their own audacious renderings.
Based between New York and Los Angeles, Erica Dawn Lyle is a writer, curator, experimental musician, and cultural instigator. The former touring guitar player for Bikini Kill, as a solo performer, Lyle has released musical collaborations with Kim Gordon, The Raincoats, Bernadette Mayer, Kathleen Hanna, Kim Deal, Brontez Purnell, and many more. She also performs in the free jazz//activist duo, MYKAWARA, with drummer, Marshall Trammell. Lyle is the author of Streetopia (Booklyn, 2015) and a contributor to Artforum, Art in America, Frieze, and other publications. Her most recent publication is the chapbook, The Knight of Cups (Beladonna Press, 2023). Her latest album, On Fire, was released jointly by Feeding Tube and Half A Million Records in October 2025.
With one guitar in his hands and two more resting at his feet, surrounded by springs, resonators, knives, bows, and assorted toys used to set the strings vibrating and awaken their resonances, Greg Malcolm employs an ever-changing array of materials and a rich palette of timbres to create a hypnotic musical form built on the repetition of elusive melodies enveloped in acoustic drones. Hailing from New Zealand, Malcolm likes to think that every sound follows a precise movement and is shaped as much by the tool chosen in the moment as by the instrument itself. Somewhere between the blues, minimalist repetitive music, and a Cage-inspired approach to the prepared guitar, his sonic world evokes both the vastness of the desert and the jolting rhythm of an unpaved track.
