New album 'EURO-COUNTRY'
After a sold-out show at La Madeleine and a highly acclaimed performance at Pukkelpop in 2025, CMAT is returning to Belgium with her ‘very sexy CMAT band’! The Irish singer-songwriter continues her unstoppable rise with a third album, entitled “EURO-COUNTRY”.
CMAT is the mysterious stage name of Ciara Mary Alice Thompson. The young Irish singer describes her country pop songs as an unexpected mix of Dolly Parton, Weird Al Yankovic and Katy Perry. Thanks to her talent for bringing together themes and atmospheres that actually clash, she is gaining more and more fans. In her own country, this has already earned her two number 1 albums, plus nominations for the BRIT Awards, the Ivor Novello Prize and the Mercury Prize. She uses her voice, which can be both soft and powerful, to deliver songs that move and confront. She wraps emotional topics such as self-destructive behaviour in humour, camp and self-relativisation to create an irresistible whole. Her new album “EURO-COUNTRY”, released at the end of August, is no exception. It is a musical balancing act that touches on heavy themes such as capitalism and the downside of fame in a light-hearted way. The viral single “Take a Sexy Picture of Me”, renamed “Woke Macarena” by her fans, is about the beauty standards women are confronted with. With “EURO-COUNTRY”, CMAT consolidates her place as one of the most important singer-songwriters of her generation. Over the years, CMAT has also built up a solid live reputation, thanks to her exuberant energy that immediately rubs off on the audience. On 16 March, she will share it again with her fans at Ancienne Belgique.
