During this talk, we brought together professionals from different fields – photographers, lawyers, programmers, and media representatives – to discuss the future of concert photography.
We talked about:
· Rights and obligations: what is allowed and what isn’t, and how both the photographer and the artist can be protected.
· Digitalization and speed: how the 24/7 news flow affects the quality and compensation of photos.
· Collaboration: how venues, media, and photographers can work together more effectively, and what fair remuneration looks like.
· Appreciation for the craft: how to ensure that concert photography remains recognized as a professional and valuable discipline.
Together, we tried to find answers to all these questions.
The discussion was moderated by Margot Otten (Bruzz, VRT), and the speakers were Lucinde Wahlen (professional concert photographer), Lucas Declercq (vi.be), Ramy Moharam Fouad (director, permanent photographer and creative director of Tamino), and Hendrik Wittock (communications manager at VIERNULVIER).
The talk was preceded by a keynote from documentary photographer Sebastian Steveniers.
