Saxophonist and master in circular breathing Colin Stetson is no stranger to us, with six (!) visits to AB under his belt. But he is now taking on the role of curator for the first time. Worth noting: on top of his concert on Sunday 6 April, Stetson will also appear as a guest musician with every act he has invited. That’s what we call commitment!
Keeley Forsyth
Thank you, Colin Stetson, for bringing British actress Keeley Forsyth to our attention. Her voice promptly shredded our soul. “A female Scott Walker!” someone insightful shouted. Comparisons to Nico, Nick Cave, Beth Gibbons (Portishead), David Sylvian, ANOHNI and Aldous Harding were legion. She collaborated with Stetson on her third album, The Hollow (released in 2024), which received widespread critical acclaim. Forsyth is equally amazing live: “This is a complete, as rooted in contemporary dance as it is in a rock concert. It is as perfect a match of form and function in the realm of musical performance as something like David Byrne’s American Utopia on Broadway show” according to In Spite Magazine.
Shida Shahabi
Last summer, the Swedish-Iranian pianist Shida Shahabi received - just like Tirzah - a rather unique invitation from PJ Harvey to accompany her during her show in Gunnersbury Park. Her latest album Living Circle (via the neoclassical label 130701, which also houses BRDCST artists such as Ava Rasti and Keeley Forsyth) navigates between classical piano music, ambient and drones and will certainly appeal to fans of Max Richter and A Winged Victory for the Sullen. She has already opened for the latter at the prestigious Barbican. The first allowed her to perform at the Reflektor festival in the famous ElbPhilharmonie in the company of Kali Malone and Portico Quartet, among others. Last year, Shahabi impressed during BRDCST in the Rijke Klarenkerk.
Colin Stetson x Francesco Donadello
BRDCST curator Colin Stetson (CA) has invited Italian producer/sound engineer Francesco Donadello (IT/DE) to a unique collaborative project.
He’s produced for previous BRDCST phenomena including Hatis Noit, Oneohtrix Point Never, Hauschka, Christina Vantzou and Echo Collective and has collaborated with Modeselektor x Thom Yorke, David Sylvian and with Hildur Gudnadóttir for her highly praised soundtrack Chernobyl.
We can’t wait to see what this explosive duo has to offer!
10¹⁷
10¹⁷ (CA/NO) is the brand new project of BRDCST curator Colin Stetson, Stian Westerhus and Erland Dahlen. The band name refers to the theoretical quantity of energy you need to create a black hole. Colin Stetson: “One of my favorite quotes is: ‘Beware, O wanderer, the road is walking too’ by Jim Harrison. It’s not a static landscape that you’re interacting in. You have to innovate constantly. Which is what 10¹⁷ is all about.” Blow that horn, Colin!
