Canadian composer and artist Stefan Maier hails from Vancouver, which is located on the traditional, never-ceded territory of the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh Nations.
 
In his multimedia installations, performances, texts and compositions, he explores sound as a means of imagining possible new worlds. His work focuses on the instability and unruliness of matter and traces the movements of sound through buildings, sound installations, instruments, software and bodies.
 
Through this fascination, Maier reveals hidden histories, sonic fictions and alternative ways of listening and authorship. His practice balances composition, investigation, and speculation, inviting the audience to experience sound as a living and continually transforming material.
 
In recent years, Stefan Maiers’ work has been presented by the likes of INA GRM and Festival d’Automne in France, the Julia Stoschek Foundation, Haus der Kulturen der Welt in Germany and Norway’s Ultima Festival. His recent albums have been released on renowned labels like Portraits GRM, Dinzu Artefacts, ETAT and Superpang. New releases are planned on Mappa and XKatedral. 
 
His unique approach to sound and space has earned Stefan Maier his own place in a generation of artists who are continually pushing the boundaries of contemporary music and sound art.
