Celebrating the magical realness of laptop music
AB Lab and echofarmer invite you to discover the Brussels-based producer’s first album: Tiny Big Much.
At this pre-release listening party we’ll listen to the album in a cosy setting, followed by a short Q&A. CD’s and T-shirts will be available for sale on the night!
Much like echofarmer’s live shows, this 30 minute mixtape is a continuous stream of whimsical, club-inspired music where all tracks seamlessly connect with each other. The work celebrates the laptop as an instrument and explores how organic, tactile and magical digital music making can feel.
On Tiny Big Much, echofarmer combines hyper-detailed percussion, vocal-like synths and snappy hits. Fed on hyperpop, IDM, footwork, breaks and other electronic nutrients, the tracks sound fizzy and cute at times, and brash and stormy at others. echofarmer takes their listener along for a ride, and invites them to come back and dig deeper into the mixtape’s teeming layers of digital detail. Constantly changing shape, the listening experience moves freely between intimacy, explosion, cheerfulness and melancholy.
On the mixtape, echofarmer constantly plays with the listener’s expectations, while meticulously tending to the tiniest sound design details. In essence, Tiny Big Much explores scale. echofarmer enlarges microscopic sounds to giant sizes, and scales down large ones to fit into the palm of the listener’s hand. As the producer’s alias suggests, this mixtape becomes a garden for the listener to return to and rediscover: sometimes from the perspective of an ant crawling through the grass, at others as a whole network of fungi sprawling throughout the digital soil.
This event is part of AB Lab, a breeding ground for experimentation, development, and artistic innovation within music and culture.
