Celebrating the 5 decade long surreal stage career of phenomenon Jean-Luc Fonck
How to describe Sttellla? On their last visit to AB (a postponed post-COVID concert in 2022) our man wrote: "That is exactly the Sttellla phenomenon: great musicians who go for humour, slapstick and wonderfully silly, mostly French, witty word-plays. Successfully continuing to do so for more than 40 years.”
Now we are able to celebrate the fiftieth stage-anniversary of frontman and famous Walloon Jean-Luc Fonck. Founder Fonck is pretty much the Leonardo da Vinci of the entertainment industry: author of ten novels and a play, composer, radio commentator, cartoonist, advertising creative and especially: performer with Sttellla. Basically, a driven audience entertainer pur sang.
To his loyal audience, Fonck is the personification of our Belgitude. Sttellla is a musical UFO of variable geometry that always revolves around Jean-Luc Fonck: you can experience him solo, in duo, in trio or with even more musicians on stage. With fifteen studio albums (including two gold ones), two live-albums and two compilations and a total of almost 1000(!) recorded tracks, you might well know the catchy Torremolinos, that has had Belgium dancing for twenty years now, but is also sung along to in France, Switzerland, Québec and even the US.
Sttellla has plenty of stage experience, clocking up more than 2000 concerts in the most diverse places: from dingy student pubs to major summer festivals for thousands of frenzied revellers, mostly a mix of housewives/househusbands, CEOs and crazed punks.
Sttellla is a 100% Belgian surrealist musical concept – an unfortunately rare genre – that has combined humour, ambiguous wordplay and madness for almost 5 decades. Fifty years of J-L Fonck will be celebrated by way of a Belgian and international tour that kicks off with this resounding Christmas edition at AB. Hallelujah!
