Indie god curates for the first time and plays his entire masterpiece ‘Bubblegum’
In light of recent developments in the spread of the COVID-19 virus, which is a very fast-moving situation, AB will be closing its doors until June the 7th.
All concerts until the 7th of of June will be suspended, and rescheduled where possible. We have mobilised the entire team and are working hard to find the best solution for each event. Individual concerts may be postponed or cancelled. If a concert is postponed, any tickets purchased will be valid for the rescheduled date. If a concert is cancelled, all tickets will be automatically refunded.
There are no daytickets left for Saturday May 9th. However there's still a few combi tickets left that will give you acces to both shows on Saturday May 9th and Sunday May 10th.
Please note: There are combi-tickets available for this event. Each day, Mark Lanegan Band will play his entire album ‘Bubblegum’. The (inter)national guests that he invites will be different on each occasion.
Very special guests: Dylan Carlson featuring Holly + Hey Colossus + Lyenn + Black Phoebe + Kid Congo Powers (dj)
With his 13 visits to AB, you can safely say that Mark Lanegan is a Resident Artist. Lanegan first took the stage at AB in 1992, with his previous band Screaming Trees, and at least a handful of times under his own name. He was a conspicuous guest at the Magnus farewell shows in late 2018 and he also passed in review with his on-the-road companions Greg Dulli & Isobell Campbell. So it was a logical choice to let Mark Lanegan have carte blanche for a weekend and have him programme to his heart’s content for his first curatorship ever, worldwide. It would even seem that Lanegan has become a professional programmer on the side, as his wishlist looks pretty impressive.
So each evening he will play his entire (!) masterpiece ‘Bubblegum’ (from 2004). The Guardian on it: ‘In every sense, ‘Bubblegum’ is a staggering record.’ There’s no way that AB40 could go wrong for us now!
Dylan Carlson featuring Holly (us)
Guitarist/singer of the delectable drone-doom band Earth and former flatmate of Kurt Cobain. On stage he is accompanied by belly dancer and & spouse Holly Carlson – who also adorned the cover of his solo album ‘Conquistador’.
Hey Colossus (uk)
This English guitar sextet is, according to Boomkat, "one of Europe's great live bands". Noteworthy: their latest albums have been released via Alter, the label of electro producer Helm.
Mark Lanegan Band-guitarist Frederic 'Lyenn' Jacques just recently released his highly-acclaimed album ‘Adrift’. De Morgen: "Het vergelijk met Thom Yorke of Scott Walker is zelden van de lucht. ‘Adrift’ getuigt van zoveel eigenzinnigheid dat Lyenn zowaar een universum op zich is."
Black Phoebe (us)
Mark Lanegan: ‘I have a band with my wife, called Black Phoebe, inspired by the post-punk music that we like, but combined with new experimental noise, and ambient electronica music.‘
Kid Congo Powers (dj) (us)
Legendary American rock-guitarist who is best known as a member of The Gun Club, The Cramps en Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, amongst others. Now behind the turntables as accomplished DJ.
