Indie god curates for the first time and plays his entire masterpiece ‘Bubblegum’
In light of recent developments in the spread of the COVID-19 virus, which is a very fast-moving situation, AB will be closing its doors until June the 7th.
All concerts until the 7th of of June will be suspended, and rescheduled where possible. We have mobilised the entire team and are working hard to find the best solution for each event. Individual concerts may be postponed or cancelled. If a concert is postponed, any tickets purchased will be valid for the rescheduled date. If a concert is cancelled, all tickets will be automatically refunded.
Mark Lanegan will also be playing in AB on Sunday May 10th.
There are no daytickets left for Saturday May 9th. However there's still a few combi tickets left that will give you acces to both shows on Saturday May 9th and Sunday May 10th.
Please note: There are combi-tickets available for this event. Each day, Mark Lanegan Band will play his entire album ‘Bubblegum’. The (inter)national guests that he invites will be different on each occasion.
Very special guests: Alain Johannes + Joe Cardamone’s Holy War + Abul Mogard + Not Waving + Teeth Of The Sea + Crayon Sun + Regis (dj)
With his 13 visits to AB, you can safely say that Mark Lanegan is a Resident Artist. Lanegan first took the stage at AB in 1992, with his previous band Screaming Trees, and at least a handful of times under his own name. He was a conspicuous guest at the Magnus farewell shows in late 2018 and he also passed in review with his on-the-road companions Greg Dulli & Isobell Campbell. So it was a logical choice to let Mark Lanegan have carte blanche for a weekend and have him programme to his heart’s content for his first curatorship ever, worldwide. It would even seem that Lanegan has become a professional programmer on the side, as his wishlist looks pretty impressive.
So each evening he will play his entire (!) masterpiece ‘Bubblegum’ (from 2004). The Guardian on it: ‘In every sense, ‘Bubblegum’ is a staggering record.’ There’s no way that AB40 could go wrong for us now!
Alain Johannes (us)
Chilean-American singer/guitarist with an impressive history. Was to be heard with Them Crooked Vultures, PJ Harvey, Queens of the Stone Age as well as Arctic Monkeys. Fully present on ‘Bubblegum’, which is why he will also accompany Lanegan on stage.
Joe Cardamone’s Holy War (us)
For years, the passionate frontman of American post-hardcore band The Icarus Line. Now present with his latest latest project Holy War, which deals in electronic beats. Cardamone also directed Mark Lanegan's video clip ‘Stitch It Up’ from 2019.
Abul Mogard (Srb)
Not that we believe it for a second, but legend says that this Serbian electronica artist worked in a factory for his entire life and only threw himself into music once he retired. Most of his albums were released via Ecstatic, the label of soulmate Not Waving. Thom Yorke (Radiohead) is a fan.
Not Waving (it)
Not Waving is the alter-ego of Italian synth/post-punk adept Alessio Natalizia (see too: Walls). He created a jet-black blood-covenant with Mark Lanegan (under his nom de plume Dark Mark) that resulted in the album ‘Downwelling’. Boomkat: ‘Refers to the latter-days Scott Walker!’
Teeth Of The Sea (uk)
Psychedelic London rock-trio that was established after a revelation during a Wolf Eyes show. Described by The Guardian as "sonic dystopians explore ambient brass'".
Crayon Sun (b)
Collaboration between Mark Lanegan Band guitarist/keyboard player Aldo Struyf and blues singer Big Dave. Their self-titled debut is bursting with steaming desert blues and gives a big wink to Captain Beefheart, Masters of Reality and C.W. Stoneking.
Regis (dj) (uk)
Regis – the alter-ego of Karl O'Connor – is still one of the most creative powers in the British techno/electro scene. Character label Blackest Ever Black honored his '80s "post punk, goth, industrial, d'n'b, dark ambient influenced" techno by releasing the excellent collector ‘Manbait’ upon the world.
